Today is the third day of World Interfaith Harmony Week 2016, an initiative first proposed by H.M. King Abdullah II of Jordan, based on the pioneering work of The Common World Initiative, and adopted by the U.N. in 2010.
Mindworks Publishing is commemorating the week with Words of Light, a seven day blog event highlighting poetry that expresses elements of interfaith harmony, and through showcasing some of the poetry featured in our interfaith publication, The Muslimah Speaks: Her Voice, Her Spirit. Today’s post is written by Seemee Khan, a poetess who has dedicated her work to the Creator, and who has written a total of three poetry collections. The following poem is from her Echoes Collection.
Passion of Faith (SeemeeHearMe, Echoes Collection)
I lifted you gently
After a passing of time
Where I’d left you standing
And it was for quite a while
I ran my hands over you softly
Dusting you delicately
I brought you close to my chest
Breathed in and out with relief
You were with me again
The gap was beyond belief
That I had left you this long
And you weren’t waiting for me
It was me that had gone
I’d left you behind
This beautiful relationship
Which could have been mine
I used to run my fingers over you
And kiss the inside of you
With faith and passion
I couldn’t get enough of you
For when I held you
I felt attached to you
And blessed I’d been led to you
Ignoring distractions to be away from you
But alas I’d failed for a time
To be close to you
I want to promise again
Not to ignore or ever leave you
I pray I can be with you day and night
For you’ll be my witness
You’ll be that light
Which will bear the truth
That I worked hard to be with you
To save myself from a terrible doom
You are the divine book
The one that makes me stronger
When I read you out loud
I want to be with you longer
You’re the book by my side
I need to read your words
A comfort and a guide
The thought of leaving you is absurd
And when I’ve been with you
I feel rejuvenated and refreshed
I pray to be with you life long
So I can continually be blessed
