Salisa Lynne Grant’s debut collection of poetry is a Black mother’s ode to her lost son as much as it is a songbook for Black resilience. Grant does not refrain from allowing readers to bear witness to her pain, her loss, and her intuitive understanding of living through trauma. In these Black Hands captures the collective “sweets and sours” of Black life and illustrates empowering passages of Black love. Calling on the power and precedents from Anna Julia Cooper to Ntozake Shange, from Zora Neale Hurston to the Ferguson Uprising, Grant tenderly acknowledges the fires that have forged her people as well as the light that lives within them. Grant’s poems provide a looking glass and a legend for the joyful, eternal, and harrowing stories that fill our lives.
The Muslimah Speaks: Her Voice, Her Spirit Volume I is an anthology collection featuring original poetry by Muslim women writers and accentuated by excerpts of the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and scriptures of the Quran and Bible. Too often than not, it is instilled in women from a very young age through the interactions that they have with others and by the images that they are bombarded with daily, that their voices are not as important as men’s. It is our intention to highlight the voices of Muslim women while showcasing the connection between them and the faithful women of the Abrahamic scriptures and among the female companions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Scattered Petals is a collection of poetry gathered together to provide encouragement and a sense of hope during times of difficulty, and to provide reminders and re-affirmations during times of ease. There’s something about the deliberate nature of creating poetic verses that I find beautiful and reassuring when things appear to be hopeless. Life can be difficult, and during some of the most difficult times in my life I’ve found comfort, strength, and inspiration to move forward by writing and reading poetry. I was inspired with the idea to put this book together after going through a very difficult time in my life, and when the storm was over, I felt the strong urge to share hope with others, especially women because we, as mothers, daughters, wives and sisters, tend to be on the front lines when the storms come. The anthology is comprised of poems by writers from diverse walks of life and it is our ardent hope that this book may be of benefit.
Knocking on the window of my soul is Janette Grant’s latest collection of poetry and this volume may be the most personal and revealing of her published collections thus far. Written following the death of her mother, many of the poems delve deeply into emotionally charged topics such as loss, the soul, the meaning of life, and the necessity of hope and optimism when faced with life’s challenges. She shares reflections on her childhood as a black girl growing up in urban America during the height of the crack epidemic, on love and womanhood, and on faith and patience during adversity. Her poems explore concepts of ancestry, legacy, and toxic masculinity in light of the recent “Time’s Up” movement with the unique perspective of an African American Muslim woman, and with a steadfastness in faith that encourages forward thinking and positive change.
Have you ever wished that life came with a handbook? I have. And Striving Towards the Good is my attempt at compiling a life handbook for believers in the Abrahamic scriptures. Striving Towards the Good is a collection of inspirational scriptures ranging on topics from faith and hope to love and righteousness from the Old and New Testaments of the Bible and from the Quran, the scriptures of the Islamic religion. This book has been written with the prayer that it will be of benefit to those in need of guidance, encouragement and comfort – those needing the fruits of the spirit. People are finding God, converting to religions and awakening to the deeper meaning of life every day. Yes, there is no denying that there is strife and difficulty in this world, but there is also light, love, joy, wisdom . . . my journey, like many others, has been filled with such ups and downs, yet I must continue to strive for the good – we must continue to strive for the good and keep the faith.
Return to Glory: A Travel Guide for African Americans Returning to Roots is a book that has been written with joy because it acknowledges our ancestors that have played an important role in our spiritual growth as a people. We believe that the ancestors are alive in another dimension and that they play an important role for us, whether it be through angelic mentorship or as spiritual advisors. It was important for me to honor the souls who have paved the way for me to return to the African continent. Much more than a mere travel guide, Return to Glory offers a wide range of information about travelling to the African continent, particularly to Senegal. You can learn about Senegalese culture and cuisine, get advice about what to pack and how to prepare for the journey, and receive a first-hand account of what it is like to return to the Motherland. The travel guide is also filled with vibrant photographs and beautiful illustrations that transport the reader to a land that he or she may not have had the opportunity to see before. I believe that humanity is Africa and I invite you to join me in respectfully glorifying our humble beginnings. During these challenging modern times, many are struggling with race relations and identity, and large segments of people of African descent are seeking solutions to the particular challenges that they are experiencing. The topics presented within the book propel individuals to look within: until you know where you come from, there is no way of knowing where you are going. Return to Glory fulfills a sense of purpose. I’m often asked about my travels to Africa and what’s it’s like there. My response is: plan a visit for yourself, without hesitation or fear. I hope that Return to Glory will inspire many to embrace the homeland – God-willing you will find the experience welcoming and spiritual fulfilling.
The Elementals: The Discovery of the Cipher Key is the first installment of the debut spiritual science fiction novel written by author and publisher Janette Grant.
Safiya, the heroine of the series, has run away again and this time she’s gotten herself into deeper trouble than she could have ever imagined. As a result, she is pulled into a centuries old conflict between the colonizing off-worlders of her home planet of Terra and the native resistance fighters of the MFDU.
Fortunately for her, the Ambassador of the Sovereign Tribes, first son of the High Chief of Am’maah, offers her asylum but when its revealed that prophecies from the sacred histories speaking about the trial times when the people of Terra will be tested by vice and disease spreading through the lands are at hand, his help may not be enough. As turmoil erupts and her tribe, the Urnahi people, are thrust to the forefront of a struggle that threatens the future of the planet, Safiya is burdened with a responsibility that she’s not sure she can bear and forced to make decisions that she never expected she’d have to make.
Full Circle is the first installment of The Yellow Butterfly book series, a work of contemporary interfaith fiction written about three Native American sisters. Like many young women today, she has to learn how to navigate real life after being sheltered by the world of academia, and its not as easy as she expected it to be, especially when faced with living so close to her childhood crush and having to sort through the very strong feelings that she still has for him.
