The holy month of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting from sun-up to sunset observed by Muslims all around the world is upon us, Subhanaa’Allah (Glory Be To Allah)! Ramadan is honored as a sacred holiday because it is the month during which the Holy Qur’an, the book of scriptures of Islam, was recited to the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), and revealed to mankind as a guidance and a blessing. There is a hadith that reads:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah’s Apostle said, “When Ramadan begins, the gates of Paradise are opened.”
In an attempt to contribute to the joy and blessings of Ramadan, Mindworks Publishing is offering a set of coloring books. The first is Ramadan Rhymes and the second is My Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr Coloring Book.
Ramadan Rhymes includes several songs about fasting to encourage young children to look forward to being old enough to fast, as well as rhymes about sighting the new moon, reading the Qur’an, praising Allah SWT, asking for forgiveness, and celebrating ‘Eid.
It loosely follows the Ramadan journey of three children who are fasting for the first time – Noor, Hicham, and Ali. Young Muslims can learn about fasting in a fun way and can discover ways they can participate in worship of Allah SWT during the blessed month – for example, by feeding someone, praying, and being good.
The nursery rhymes colouring book can be used with the free videos on YouTube (‘Elizabeth Lymer’ channel) meaning young children can be happily immersed in Ramadan through rhymes and colouring while their parents are reading the Qur’an and fasting.
Ramadan Rhymes is currently available on Amazon.com and Amazon U.K., but it is also be available through Paypal on the Mindworks Publishing website at a reduced cost plus shipping.
My Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr coloring book is forthcoming and should be available for purchase by the start of Ramadan in June. It contains printables from several websites offering free coloring pages and offers a brief summary of what Ramadan is and how it is celebrated.
