Domestic violence reaches across cultural, religious and economic boundaries to affect families everywhere, and International Purple Hijab Day was created with the intention of spreading awareness about this issue. Following the tragic death of Aasiya Zubair four years ago, a group of Muslims came together to develop a way of identifying a day in support of domestic abuse survivors. The color purple is the official color used by the Domestic Violence movement throughout Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, so purple was adopted  and International Purple Hijab Day was born. It has since been observed on the second Saturday in February with prayers, local events and workshops.

This year, Mindworks Publishing will join Muslimah Writers Alliance (MWA) in support of International Purple Hijab Day, insha’Allah. ‪You can participate with us and spread awareness by sharing images from the MWA PurpleHijab Day campaign with the hashtags: #‎EndViolenceAgainstWomen,‬ ‪#‎PurpleHijabDay, and‬ ‪#‎MuslimLivesMatter‬.
