Angela Davis has been an activist and writer promoting women’s rights and 51CKbgONCAL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_racial justice while pursuing her career as a philosopher and teacher. She emerged as a prominent counterculture activist and radical in the 1960’s as a leader of the Communist Party USA, and had close relations with the Black Panther Party through her involvement in the Civil Rights Movement. She founded Critical Resistance, an organization working to abolish the prison-industrial complex and she is a retired professor with the History of Consciousness Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is also a former director of the university’s Feminist Studies department.
